Scottish Herd Competition: We were pleased to take two firsts and five seconds for individual animals in the 2024 Scottish Beef Shorthorn Herd Competition. Overall we stood second in Scotland in the "Large Herd" category.

At the Beef Shorthorn Society Sale at Longtown on 26th August, our unserved poll heifer, Shawhill Florence Tabitha (703801309) took 1st prize in the heifer class and sold for 3,300gns to Messrs Harper, South Mains, Biggar.

We have three nice heifers going to the Society Sale at Longtown on Monday, 26th August, at 11.30am. Lot 9, Shawhill Tessa Tatiana (703802026), a good representative of our Lowther Tessa family. Lot 10, Shawhill Rosebud Terror (703801306), going back to Paul Braithwaites successful Rosebud family. Lot 11, Shawhill Florence Tabitha (703801309), a Fieldhouse Florence Anita and Burnside Elite grand-daughter.

Our cow, Shawhill Duchess, with her bull calf at foot by our stock bull Sowerbyparks Ricard. Reserve champions at Dumfries Show. A good calf by our Stirling purchased Reserve Senior Champion (693804855) who is calving easily and breeding well with a lot of good calves in this year's crop.

We have two unserved Beef Shorthorn heifers going to the Society Sale at Skipton on Wednesday 8th November.
Lot 24 is Shawhill Starlet by our successful stock bull Shawhill Henderson out of a well-bred Isle of Man cow, Faradale ES Kathy, a Eurosceptic of Upsall daughter. Lot 34, Shawhill Dewdrop Solway is a Winalot Rodney grand-daughter out of Shawhill Dewdrop Firth, a long-lived and productive cow, one of the founders of the Shawhill Dewdrop Family.

We have two unserved heifers going to the Stirling Show and Sale for sale on Monday morning, lots 146 and 159.
Both are by the high index Shawhill Maestro with lot 146, Shawhill Rosebud Sally being out of a Shawhill Freedom dam who's mother was one of our best foundation cows. Lot 159, Shawhill Hermione Sue goes back to Vortrekker of Upsall on her dam's side.

Shawhill Foxglove Ruby took the Championship at the very well attended Beef Shorthorn Society's Longtown Sale. She sold for 2,700gns to Mr G.W. Dent, Kaberfold, Kirkby Stephen.
Our unserved heifer, the 2nd prize Shawhill Songbird sold for 1,900gns and Shawhill Snowdrop for 1,800gns.

Our purchase at the Stirling Bull Sales - the reserve senior champion, Sowerbyparks Ricard (693804855) from Messrs S. & G. Hunt. He is a dark roan poll bull going back to Bell M Foreman 30A on the sire's side (a bull that John Dick saw in Canada) and out of a Blelack Minstrel sired dam. We look forward to seeing his calves on the ground.
