A hat trick! For the third year running we obtained the highest price
in the bull section of the Skipton Shorthorn Sale. Admittedly, demand
for bulls was not at last year`s levels but Shawhill Edward was selected
champion bull and winner of the Morrison's Cup, selling to Mr W. Graham,
Fieldhouse for 2,600gns.
Females at the sale met their usual good and
consistent demand throughout and the attendance of potential buyers
and interested parties was most impressive. Our thanks to Mr & Mrs
Feber, C.M. Fanshawe & Messrs
Parkin-Coates for buying our heifers & congratulations to Gerald
Turton who won the supreme championship with Tessa X767 of Upsall which
sold for 3,100gns.
NOVEMBER 2012 – 1
We will be taking a strong twenty-one month old poll bull, Shawhill
Edward (P) 583801073, to the Skipton
Shorthorn Sale on Wednesday 7th
November. He is sired by our stock bull, Alvie Blue Eyedboy and has
been used successfully on pedigree heifers.
Also in our Shorthorn consignment to Skipton is an Uppermill Jinks
sired heifer, Shawhill Ury Maid Dawn (P) 573801534. She is in calf
to Shawhill Einstein (P) 583801074, a son of our championship winning
cow, Sandwick Celtic Rose.
We will also have another in-calf heifer forward (due to calve to Shawhill
Edward) together with a cow and a heifer, each with a calf at foot
by Alvie Blue Eyedboy.

OCTOBER 2012 – 1
We have been working with some of our 2012 spring born calves and are
pleased with their progress despite the dire summer weather which they
have experienced. Here are pictures of April & May born heifers.
Each is by a different sire.
SEPTEMBER 2012 – 2
We have four good Beef Shorthorn heifers going to the Stirling Sales.
These will be sold very near to the commencement of the Beef Shorthorn
female sale at 4pm on Monday 22nd October.
All are in calf to our home-bred
young bulls which are destined for sale themselves at Skipton in November
and Stirling in February.

The recent “barn party” at Newlands seemed to go well. £718 was raised for the
R.S.A.B.I. from donations.
AUGUST 2012 – 2
On Sunday 12th we had a visit to Newlands from members of the
North of England Shorthorn Breeders Club. It really was the “glorious
twelfth” as, for once, the sun shone on us. We greatly enjoyed meeting
everyone and showing them around the cattle. Thanks to Andrew and Caroline
Ivinson of Sandwick for organising the visit.
AUGUST 2012 - 1
At Dumfries & Lockerbie Show on Saturday 4th
August, the Shorthorns fielded the largest entry in the beef cattle
section with strong and competitive classes. Our Beef Shorthorn maiden
heifer Outrawcliffe Emilly (583801240) was 1st in her class and stood
reserve champion to the champion cow with calf at foot, Gregors Zillah
from W. & I. McGregor. Zillah went on to be reserve overall beef
champion. Our white heifer, Shawhill Rosebud Edith (583800039) was
3rd in this long heifer class. Lowther Eclipse led the Beef Shorthorn
bulls with the 2nd prize going to our January 2011 born bull, Shawhill
Evaristus (583801072) by Alvie Blue Eyedboy.
Much of the day was warm with bright sunshine but proceedings were
rapidly terminated in the midst of the grand parade when we were struck
with monsoon conditions – thunder, lightning and hail – which continued
persistently for almost an hour.
